Manual J Load Calculations

These calculations can be performed remotely. For new construction, we can work with your blueprints and architectural drawings including the building orientation, window and door schedules, and insulation specs. With existing homes, we prefer to make a site visit.

 

HERS Scores

The HERS Index measures a home’s energy efficiency. Having a home energy rating performed on your house can tell you a lot about the home, such as how efficiently it’s operating and where you can make modifications for greater energy savings. 

When selling a home, a low HERS Index Score can command a higher resale price, and when buying a home you can anticipate the costs of energy bills and efficiency upgrades.

 

Combustion Appliance Safety Testing

If a home contains natural-draft appliances (such as a natural-draft furnace, boiler, or water heater) then combustion safety testing must be conducted by a certified energy rater.

  • For many builders, the Energy Star for Homes program has been a great way to raise their market awareness, improve their homes, and become more visible to their customers.

    For other builders, the Energy Star for Homes offers very little and is an altogether conceit to their products. Think of the efficiencies of government in general . . . if ambitious builders were limited by federally-backed programs, is it really sound logic to believe that their homes would be the most energy-efficient example?

    For example, the current NC building codes (to which every single new construction house must conform) is already 95% congruent with the Energy Star for homes program.

    Our position is that if the D-code built house can already nearly qualify for Energy Star, where is the real value to your customers? We believe the US housing market still needs real solutions to issues that have been plaguing houses for decades – not just participation ribbons.
