Are you ready for a more comfortable home?

Whether you’re just now starting to notice symptoms, or if you’ve been struggling to fix recurring issues over the years, Home Energy Solutions is here to offer long-lasting and cost-effective solutions.

Signs your home has HVAC Problems

Every variable can negatively affect equipment and therefore desired output. When HVAC equipment is properly sized and commissioned specifically for your home, performance is vastly improved making equipment less costly to operate.  Well-designed HVAC also has a longer lifespan.  On average, our customers enjoy 3-5 more years of consistent performance from their Heating and Air Conditioning Equipment.

The “Wells Always Runs Dry” Home

Homeowner Issues:

“The 2nd floor of our home is constantly hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Our Geothermal HVAC system runs all the time and can’t keep up, the humidity in our home is excessively high, and our energy bills are high.”

The “Mold Grows on our Clothes and in our Closets” Home

Homeowner Issues:

“We purchased our home 3 years ago. The second floor is very uncomfortable with high humidity, and mold is growing on our clothes in the closets. We’ve worked with 3 HVAC contractors to try and fix the problems but no one has been able to help us.”

Getting Started with Home Energy Solutions

Your home is as unique as you are and there is no cookie-cutter approach to solving your home’s problems. Other energy consultation services may claim to offer sound HVAC designs and solutions, but they’re often lacking in the experience required to optimize HVAC equipment when complications arise.

Since 2009, HES has touched more than 21,000 projects and has offered guidance and consultation services across the entire spectrum of the residential, industrial, and commercial building industries.

That’s what sets Home Energy Solutions apart

Initial On-Site Consultation

Initial Consultation Fee*: $295

*This fee will be subtracted from any contracted work going forward.

After we have spoken with you over the phone to learn more about your experiences, our first order of business is to identify the true causes of the issues being described. This is achieved by having an on-site consultation with you to learn more about your experiences, lifestyle habits, and observations while living in your home.

We work hard to find cost-effective, and long-term solutions to provide the most relief from the annoyances you’re experiencing. It’s a priority to present the correct solutions so you can invest your money wisely.

Our quote will be based on the number of tests we will need to perform and on the general complication of your home’s issues.

Follow-Up Inspection

Following the Initial Consultation, HES performs the diagnostic testing measures (listed below) that are appropriate for your home and the symptoms you described.

Plan Review for New Construction

Our services can assist you with making tough decisions regarding all the faculties of your future home. From cost comparisons, to properly sizing and recommending the right insulation, windows, and HVAC equipment!  With a plan review from HES, homeowners and builders alike will be making a smart decision.  We are experts who can guide your project’s future success from the drawing board.  We often describe our Plan Review Services as an insurance policy from the types of costly potential errors we see in homes everyday.

Our report will help you compare costs vs. ROI for:

  • Advanced envelope choices including architectural decisions made within

  • Appliances

  • Benefits of pursuing a building certification program

  • Context of “energy efficiency”

  • Framing strategy

  • HVAC strategy

  • Roofing Choices

  • Solar Energy

  • Ventilation Strategy

  • Window Selection

Did you know that while homes are being built more energy-efficiently, building systems are often being installed inefficiently? Home Energy Solutions has experience as a home builder, building scientist, and an ACCA Certified HVAC specialist which allows us to provide you what others cannot. We understand not only your home’s present configurations but can outline how they will perform years into the future!

HVAC Design Services

We approach this process with a detail-oriented mindset and strive to achieve the highest level of accuracy. HES can design your system for each critical step of the process.

Manual J Load Calculations

provide the framework for your home’s heating and cooling needs.

Manual D Duct Design

for properly sizing your HVAC system.

Manual S Equipment Selections

for understanding the optimized air handler, blower fan, furnace/heat pump, filtration strategy, and ventilation strategy.

Manual T Calculations

for optimizing best airflow practices.

Accurate and Aggressive Load Estimates:

  • Provide optimzed comfort and humidity control at interior design conditions

  • Provide optimzed comfort and humidity control at part-load conditions

  • Provide optimized comfort in outdoor design conditions

  • Reduce the possibility of indoor mold and mildew

  • Optimize installed cost

  • Reduce operating cost

  • Improve reliability (minimize short-cycling)

  • Translate to smaller equipment

  • Translate to smaller duct airways and increased duct system efficiency

  • Minimize service demand loads imposed on utility grids

  • Translate to competitively priced proposals and quotes

  • Minimize "surprises" after the system is put into operation (problems with comfort, mold, mildew, health, safety, and operating cost, or a letter from a lawyer)

  • Provide design values for sensible and latent equipment capacity

  • Demonstrate "due diligence" in a court of law

Incorrect load estimates:

  • Cause discomfort during design-day weather

  • Produce marginal or unacceptable comfort at part-load conditions

  • Reduce the equipment's ability to control indoor humidity

  • Cause short-cycling, which affects comfort, system efficiency, operating cost, and reduced system efficiency

  • Translate to larger equipment, larger duct airways, larger duct loads, and reduced system efficiency

  • Increase the installed cost and operating cost

  • Impose unnecessary loads on utility grids

  • Produce price quotes that are less competitive than quotes base on correctly sized equipment

  • Are less defensible in a court of law

Additional Testing and Inspection Services

Some of the most invaluable tests in the building science industry! Did you know the average homeowner loses hundreds of dollars a year because their ductwork isn’t properly sealed and their HVAC system isn’t working as efficiently as it should?

Duct Leakage Testing

has been a major component of the Energy Star for Homes program for years and is now a mandatory requirement for new construction homes and remodels in North and South Carolina. Pressure testing of ductwork allows us to understand where your lost dollars may be going.

Blower Door Testing

enables us to effectively determine how “leaky” a home may be, and to pinpoint areas where “bad air” may be infiltrating.

Indoor Air Quality

The quality of the air you breathe inside your home every day depends just as much on how the air from the outside gets into your home as do the inside activities.  The best approach is to make your home as air-tight as possible, while at the same time providing the necessary amount of controlled, filtered ‘fresh air’ on a regular basis.

Home Energy Solutions approaches this holistically and considers how your home’s systems can more consistently control the air coming in and out of your home so you can experience improved indoor air quality. You can achieve peace of mind knowing that fresher air is consistently being filtered and that many harmful contaminants are removed before having the chance to enter your home - all while reducing energy losses.

Mold / Mildew Inspection and Correction

Mold and Mildew is often present as a result of air leaks in ductwork, or air leakage from the home itself.  The quality of the air you breathe in your home may depend on many factors - both external as well as internal.  We diagnose mold and mildew issues in homes and provide solutions!

Lowering High Energy Bills

Improperly sized HVAC, improperly commissioned (set-up) HVAC, and poorly designed ductwork all contribute to unnecessarily high energy bills.  Leaky, under-insulated homes are also a root cause.

RESCheck Report

It’s a terrible time to find out your insulation or window values are non-conforming to code at the end of a project.

A RESCheck report confirms your building plans will conform to code enforcement standards and help you avoid costly re-inspection fees. We can generate these reports with a single visit to the jobsite and can turn the report around quickly.

HVAC System Replacement*

*Strategy based on diagnostic testing results for your home

Every day, we consult with homeowners whose HVAC contractor (whether ignorantly, or haphazardly) misdiagnoses the system sizing requirements for a given space.  Whether building new, or replacing an existing system, Home Energy Solutions can design an HVAC strategy to fit your space.

Our services can maximize the lifespan of your equipment and optimize your home’s indoor air quality.

IR Thermal Imaging Inspection

Do you know what’s inside your walls? Why your heating and cooling bills are so high? Why some areas of your home are warmer in the summer and colder in the winter than other rooms?

Infrared Thermal Cameras are an amazing tool to help us gain insight into these types of questions. Being able to see your home for all its flaws is the first step to truly understanding how to approach remediation.

We can also use Thermal Imaging to help locate moisture issues and water leaks without having to poke holes in your walls!

Our services remove obstacles standing in your way:

As a Homeowner, what would it feel like

  • to maintain a consistent temperature throughout your home?

  • to know your money could be better spent on a correct and sustainable solution to your high energy bills?

  • for family members with respiratory problems to experience improved indoor air quality?

It is possible to have a home with less hassle and maintenance, cost less to operate, be consistently comfortable, and have a better awareness of your personal stake in the broader consumption of energy and fuels!
